Forest to the Sea Art trail, Lydney

Lookout sculpture in Forest Pennant

Connections between past and present

Forest of Dean District Council commissioned artists Denman + Gould to create a brand new art trail, From the Forest to the Sea, at Lydney Harbour. This project was funded by the Government's Coastal Communities Fund and the trail symbolises how extracted materials from the Forest were transported to the harbour and out to sea.

From Forest to the Sea is inspired by the area's rich industrial heritage, making connections between the past and present uses of the harbour. One of the sculptures, The Lookout, has been crafted our of blue Forest Pennant sandstone and stands in the place of an octagonal white lookout hut. Light passes through the sculpture and the views look beyond the stone to the incredible landscape of the Severn estuary.
